The enzymes corresponding with alcohol metabolism include aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) and alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), with genetic variants observed between different ethnic groups and geographic regions. Environmental factors, such as upbringing, impact the likelihood of issues arising from frequent alcohol consumption either personally or from observation of adult figures. When these practices are not corrected, the wrong message may be reinforced with the acceptability of certain negative behaviors. If these outcomes are observed, how does that translate into incarceration rates and frequency of violent crimes between locations or specific groups of people?
