The two most significant aid programs are TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and SNAP (the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) so these will be discussed in detail. Both of these programs have a long history and have been altered many times. The alterations are mainly due to the negative attitudes many have for government assistance. Such opinions have been maintained over several generations and are still very common today.
