Hopwood challenged the race-based preferential admissions policies used at the University of Texas at Austin. The successful challenge resulted in changes in admissions policy and legislation that attempted to mitigate the damaging effects the ruling would have on minority enrollment. This research evaluates changes in trends in minority enrollment at the University of Texas at Austin in selected academic disciplines and the relationship between Hopwood and minority enrollment. The research hypothesis states that Hopwood will have a negative impact on minority enrollment in each academic discipline. An interrupted time series design is used to test the hypotheses. The data collected consist of the percentage of Black and Hispanic student enrollment each semester. The findings suggest that Hopwood had an overall negative impact on minority enrollment at the University of Texas at Austin.
