Lelyveld's biography 'Great Soul: Mahatma Gandhi and His Struggle With India.' The book was banned in India prior to publication because Indian politicians felt the book described Mohandas Gandhi having a homosexual affair with a male friend, Hermann Kallenbach. This thesis explores the origin of this outcry.
