Texas State University-San Marcos, San Marcos, Texas.https://hdl.handle.net/10877/12642In The History of Sexuality: An Introduction, Michel Foucault presents several theories concerning power, subjectivity, and truth. This thesis considers these theories in relation to Colleen McCullough’s The Thorn Birds, a chick lit novel written in 1977. Examples from McCullough’s text show how Foucault’s theories apply to modem literature. A discussion of the female reader and her interaction with the chick lit text also shows how Foucault’s theories can be applied in modem society.Text70 pages1 file (.pdf)endirect discourse in literaturefeminism and literaturesocial role in literaturechick litPower and Resistance in The Thorn BirdsThesis
