dc.description.abstract | This study examined parental monitoring and communication behaviors associated with their children’s Internet use. Constructs from the Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) were utilized to examine parental behaviors. Seventy-three parents of children 12-17 years old participated in completing the online survey instrument. Parents with higher perceived self-efficacy were more likely to communicate with their children about cyber risks. In developing cyber safety programs for parents, it is important to help raise their confidence in communicating with their children. Results indicated that parental risk perceptions affected parental monitoring behaviors. | |
