It has been said that in the twenty first century that theatre is a dying art form. It is not a dying art form, but the way that it is being approached is. Theatre should be approached from an immersive, interactive, as well as personal level – in a unique way that should find a way to captivate an audience that lives in a world, glued to little screens. I have set out to explore the human condition and oddities in growing up as millennials – what makes us different and how those experiences have informed or made us the people that we are today. I have chosen six other students to explore this with me. I believe that theatre will become a dying art form if we continue to fail at creating relevant material that can surprise and engage an audience so my intention with this project was to create a theatre piece that met that criteria. We have created a script of vignettes and ensemble pieces that capture the experiences that we had and how they helped shape who we are now. This script will be performed in the form of letters, voicemails, and direct address to the audience; using innovative lighting, self-written scripts, audience involvement, a little bit of humor, and a lot of heart. This performance will show at the Theatre Building at TX State University in room 209 on November 20, 2015 at 7 pm.
