| dc.description.abstract | In recent years, stem cells have been credited as the “greatest discovery of modern science” with claims that stem cells will be a “cure-all” for a multitude of diseases including cerebral palsy, Alzheimer’s disease, autoimmune disorders, and many others. As of January 2020, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has only approved seventeen stem cell therapies all of which are used only in treatment of blood malignancies. There has been much debate whether or not stem cells have potential to live up to these claims, or is it all hype? This paper will explore the history and development of stem cell research, their potential uses in disease treatment, and the future for stem cell therapies. | |
