dc.description.abstractIntimate partner violence (IPV) is an issue that impacts many relationships, including those between adolescents and young adults (ages 10 to 19). This literature review explores the causes of IPV in young relationships and potential prevention methods. Events such as domestic violence at home, bullying, and lack of knowledge about IPV have been shown to increase the risk of both the inflicting and victimization of IPV. Psychoeducational groups in schools have been shown to increase knowledge of what this abuse looks like and what to do if abuse occurs. This knowledge empowers young people to avoid abuse and seek help if they encounter it. There are many opportunities for additional research on IPV in young relationships and methods of prevention for future abuse. By creating additional psychoeducational groups for young people in middle school, high school, and college there can be greater awareness for IPV and work to recognize, address, and hopefully prevent it.
